Brioche for Beginners

(also using a mystery rainbow fingering-weight yarn)

I kinda messed up the last stitch of the round for a couple of inches, ended up with a double-column of what looks like the knit stitch of the brioche ribbing.

But I do appreciate the simplicity and clarity of explanation on this pattern — it’s been a few years, and this time I did NOT struggle with brioche stitch!

Total project weight 68g
Height 8.5 in (unblocked)

Never the same river twice

Started with “Architecture” but didn’t like having to count rows, pulled back to the end of the toe and incorporated the 1×1 cables in a ribbing pattern.

Will add notes about which toe type, row pattern, and when I get to heel etc.

Slightly shorter than the last time I did the flk heel, I think.

Pattern for back of socks:

p2k2 x 7; p2; cable pattern over 4 st; p2; k2p2 x 6

Climb and Swirl Cowl, Mom edition

December 29, 2019

I made this once before, but I must have cast on way more stitches, because this was more of a turtleneck style than a drapey one.

I also just barely got into shading out of the darkest color. Made it about 6” tall.

Usage update: I’m still not totally satisfied with my overall gauge tension, but I’ve now worn it twice in below freezing weather, and it’s REALLY COMFY.

Test-knitting Ma’ayan’s sock pattern! And trying toe-up taat socks for the first time in a looooong time.

August 3, 2019

Foot length to start of fish-kiss heel 7 1/2 (measuring below the needle, final length measuring from lifeline is 7 5/8)

I used my most recent broken seed stitch socks as a model.

Bahahahahaha I was about to call it just an inch or two above the heel (because omg 1×1 rib is so boooooooring) and then I looked at the pattern and there’s a whole other section of leg that I forgot about entirely. (Things that happen when you take 3+ months to knit a pair of socks, with two other projects in between.) So I ripped back a half-round of purl and am just going to jump into the pattern from here. Should be about the right length.

Did both repeats of the pattern and then 6 additional rounds of 1×1 ribbing. Bound off with Jeny’s stretchy. Very comfy quarter-height socks, ended up just wearing them the rest of the day.
