higher ed webbies at SXSW

Saturday, March 11
6:30 – 7:45 pm
Buffalo Billiards (6th & Brazos)

Chip Diffendaffer from the University of Denver is organizing, so RSVP to him at cdiffend@du.edu. He recommends wearing gear from your college…I won’t be, but then again, I’m not going as a rep of the school, either.

great dinner!

Tonight was the higher education web professionals dinner that I organized…and it went very well. The restaurant was affordable and comfortable, with fantastic service and good food. (Costas on University Ave, if you’re wondering.) 17 people showed up, including me: maybe half from various bits of the UW, but the rest from a variety of schools.

All chit-chat and networking, and everybody seemed to enjoy it. I’ll be emailing everybody next week, and I want to try to organize another dinner (or maybe a lunch) for April or May. Maybe even make it more of a professional thing; see if somebody wants to speak about a project or topic…that would be cool.

My secret plan, as I told a couple of people, is to get this really going and organize an honest-to-god conference in another year or so. I think tonight was an excellent first step.

PSA: Puget Sound higher education web professionals dinner

I sent this to some of the email lists that I’m on, but I thought I’d mention it here, too.

Along with Deirdre Peters at North Seattle Community College and Susan Bustetter at Evergreen, I’ve organized a dinner for higher ed web people (managers, designers, etc.)….

Friday, March 4 at 6 p.m.
Costas Greek Restaurant
4559 University Way N.E.
Seattle, WA 98105-4510
Phone: 206-633-2751

There’s no particular agenda planned, just an opportunity to talk to peers and such. (I’m assuming that those attending the CASE conference will have information to share from that experience.)

I will be making reservations, so if you’re interested, let me know! (A comment on this entry will be fine, or you can use my contact form.)
